Why two standards. NB-IoT is more energy-efficient and penetrates buildings deeper — ideal for static cards. LTE-M supports handover and higher speeds — it works where NB-IoT does not (especially in the Americas) and remains primary for operators winding down NB-IoT (AT&T — Q1 2025, NTT Docomo — 2020). NB-IoT roaming is limited, which makes the multi-technology chip a strategic choice. Satellite NTN and LoRa mesh cover the zones beyond cellular reach.
